    I would be proud to know that someone is out there that is encouraging my children to succeed. Children sometimes listen to strangers or people of influence more than what we have to say as parents. For someone to to care for not just the success of their own children but yours as well shows a “UNITED” and caring society. America be the United Nation as you are known to be. Let the world be proud of you.

    Cool that he’s encouraging kids to work hard at school, but I don’t think it is addressing the real problem, (which is another topic entirely.) What I don’t like is that this reinforces the message that those who don’t aspire to a certain life paths are worthless. What about all the people who aren’t going to be Doctors or Lawyers or Writers or Inventors? What about the construction workers, chefs, waitresses, janitors? Those people fulfill important roles in society too.

    no. I heard from a European and he was talking about how a lot of americans are ignorant and stupid. I had no choice to agree with him. We have a LOT of ignorant americans , like the guy who said , “You lie!” I feel so sorry for those who ae fools.

    great speech and very motivating but i can’t see how people could think this is brainwashing i mean all he’s doing is motivating students to do well in school and believe in themselves.

    The reason they wouldn’t be complaining is because they agree more with McCain’s policies than Obama’s not because of an issue as base as someone’s skin color. Conservatives hate(d) Clinton and Carter too because of their policies and, what do you know, they’re white men!

    Yes people did speak out.. That was the same day 911 happened. and I felt he let me down on his actions by not stating up to the teacher “ma’am” i must address the nation and leave. any thing else you like to throe out.

    im conservatives portugese / white man and your statement is biased.
    the remarks the President made was delivered to our Americas pupils on Tuesday turned out to be in the mainstream of back to school statements and had nothing to do with a race and nothing more. Then again you probably didn’t make it pass the 5th grade to fully comprehend what every thing I said.

    the reason why conservatives dont want to hear obama or see him do well is because their society cannot stand to see a black man in power or send out a good message. if John Mcain was giving the same exact speech, then no one would be complaining.

    You know what, what a SHAME that people were so immature about this. I’m in highschool, and I was infuriated that my school didn’t show this. GOOD for him for doing this! Its a great speech. And if it keeps one kid from dropping out, and being a failure, then the speech was totally worth it. In no way was this to further himself politically!
    & thats clear.
    He is the PRESIDENT. People should have more respect for him.
    It was a great speech, and good for him.

    Wow, he gave advice that many parents fail to give to their kids! I was pissed when I watched on TV stupid parents pulling their kids out of class so they wouldn’t watch the speech.

    i watch this obama speech over and over i know everybody was so excited to hear this speech and i am glad obama is the president because he willing to work with american education, better jobs for adults i think thats parents should let there child watch this because obama is tellin us as teens and kids to get an education and stay in school ,study book,obey parents you can drop out and just drop in and think ya finna get an job

    i would be psyched if i were in kindergarten and watched this, i mean the president is giving a message to children! its supposed to be helping them make good academic choices! not hypnotize them into being socialists. honestly, there was a time when people respected the president no matter his political party.
