I defintely agree with Obama.Me Being a 9th Grade Student, I agree with Obama, if there is no foundation of a good schools and techin our future is in jeoprady. No Child Left Behind, has its benefits, but a major problem is the stress on the standarized test.
Charging forward? Education right now is in the toilet, the economy is is spiraling downward, people all around can not afford FOOD, and food banks can’t even help them. Gas is out of control,” repugs”, only want war after war and to spill blood and to line their pockets with more money. YEAH, that is charging forward.
I think I will try Obama can’t be worse than Bush and McSame.
agree with the standardized testing. I say keep it, but not with such high stakes. If a kid can’t pass in 10th grade, but their track record through school is great, they should graduate without a discussion about it. And these tests label schools underperforming when they are making so much progress. Last year my school didn’t make Adequate yearly progress because we were short 2 of the 48 objectives needed to pass. ridiculous.
on obama’s website he’s asked how he will FUND education. he side stepped the question and instead talks about his ed plan. he NEVER mentions how it will be funded. He apparently believes that teachers are leaving because they need mentoring. The most talented teachers we have don’t leave because the job is difficult. they leave because they can’t afford to stay at these job and have a family. teachers should be making double or at least what they would make working in their fields of study.
I agree with Obama here. College costs are nuts. I had to change schools I was going to due to costs. I hate how that was. It hurts when you have to go from the private university you dreamed about going to to the local communtiy college and change the major you wanted to take due to the costs. I was a lucky child and my mom could spend time with me as a kid but not everyone is as lucky. Some families need both parents working. I agree with Obama and agree History and Arts need a chance too.
I believe we as a people should make school more interesting. Keeping students more interested in school might keep them in school. And what he said about the cost of college hell yeah. I’m going to be a freshman in august and shit. The cost are way out my reach.
Isn’t this what LBJ was preaching in his Great Society? Pride in who you are and hope for the future? As long as teacher’s unions mandate that all teachers have to have education training and not insist on training in their respective fields, we will never have good teachers. And as long as we don’t want standards and insist on education that is up to individual teachers, we will have plent of kids who can sing and know black leaders but who can’t read and write or do math.
I only disagree with him on one thing, we shouldn’t emphasize math and science necessarily. I’m shocked at how illiterate some of us Americans are, it’s shocking. I gaurantee you, the majority of our population cannot spell words like gratuity, or maneuver. It wouldn’t surprise me if 70% or over couldn’t spell imbecile.
He still has my vote though, I support everything else.
This man speaks from his heart! He is an authentic person who knows about the reality ordinary people face every day! Finally we’ll have a president who understands and works for ordinary people.
“We need to set up a growth model so that we’re accurately assessing the performance of children and schools. And if we’re doing that, then I think teachers want to achieve high standards”
EXACTLY!
What Obama UNIQUELY brings to the table is his experience as a community organizer. Knowledge of how COMMUNITY functions is how schools will FINALLY begin the reformation process— by developing an ethic of excellence, pride in work, and hope for the future. YES WE CAN to education reform!
My wife and I are teachers. We are glad that Sen. Barack Obama supports education. We believe that he has an awareness of what is important for our schools and will help us. We are excited to hear his message of change for America.
Please get a strong running mate, I really don’t want to see a showdown in Denver and then a rerun of the 1960 convention, but this time Mr. Gore is the new JFK. I say this because you can beat Senator McCain, but feelings are that Mr. Gore can’t. I wish he’d endorse someone, so this concern wouldn’t come into my mind.
Good points, but the problem is that the government is not promoting freedom of thought as much as it should. Tomorrow’s generation is generally being taught to think in a certain way… Obama keeps dropping words people want to hear, such as “affordable” and “equal opportunity”, and speaks of his childhood hardships; this is all just rhetoric. He should talk about that PLUS how the current education system is inadequate; they are dumbing the children down.
Education is important and listening to him, I can see that he is ready to give a chance to every child. Besides, he is willing to negociate the credit cards companies to facilitate college’s student getting an understantable loan..

Health care and education are my number one concerns. I think he makes great points. There is so much that needs to be done with education. All of us need to be teachers to our children in many ways.

Freeing up the funds tied to the current war policy it would fund this over and over.
He also talks about corporate responsibility.
Those are just two ways to find funds if take the time to look.

We should not be teaching kids how to fill in a bubble on a test. In 11th grade I was going to go nuts with all the testing I had to do.

We need someone to heave our schools up from the depths… I think Obama recognizes what will make our education system work again.
We are falling behind the curve… Improved education, starting in preschool, is the biggest factor that will put the US back in the race.
No Child Left Behind is a failure. We focus too much on standardized testing. Standardized tests do not make a bit of difference in the world.

Obama is the Great Uniter. Gore should work in the administration but not as a running mate because Conservatives really dislike him.
To reach across the aisle and get cooporation, obama should run with Kathleen Sebelius or someone.
Either way Obama08!
